Cytotoxic Activity of Ephedra alata Extracts on Human Lymphocytes and Breast Cancer Cell Line in Vitro

This study was conducted to use the local Ephedra alata plant as a model for extracting and detecting alkaloids in stem of (alkaloids-rich extract crude extract). Different extraction procedures were adopted qualitative well quantitative examination alkaloid extracts, extract, best methods materials applied. Simple, fast accurate like TLC (thin layer chromatography) HPLC (High-performance liquid chromatography), used identification (ephedrine) different extracts stems E. stems. Ephedrine detected each alkaloids-rich with 8 5 ppm concentrations respectively. The assessment carried out these have effects on human breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231) normal lymphocytes (HLs). showed that there no risk using medicines it has low cytotoxicity HLs, while MDA-MB-231 percentage death 50.11% at concentration 75mg/ml after 72-hours incubation period 15 mg/ml during 24-hours had 50.63% inhibition rate. alata, an important medicinal plant, cytotoxic cultured particularly when considering its concentrations, promising cancerous lines.
